Prescription Drug Insurance
Anyone that is settling in Québec permanently or any child under the age of 18 staying in Québec for more than 6 months must have a prescription drug insurance. The public plan is only provided to those who are unable to access the private plan. If one has access to a private plan, they are obligated to join.
Until you reach the age of 18, you can be covered under your parents’ plan, whether it be public or private. If your parents are temporarily staying in the province, they are not eligible for the plan, but you may be if you are authorized to stay for a period longer than 6 months. You will be registered when you apply for your health insurance. You can check your eligibility specifically through the link below.

Family Doctor
Once you have obtained health insurance, you are eligible to register for a family doctor. The role of a family doctor is to take care of your overall health. They will help you with any medical issues such as preventing diseases, treating illnesses, and just keeping you healthy.
You can register to be put on the waiting list on the RAMQ site or find a family doctor yourself.
